Just because there’s no solid proof, it doesn’t mean that there’s no truth to the idea that Green Tea can help you lose weight. After all, it has been proven that Green Tea boosts your energy level, which helps with exercising and thus losing weight.
In a study that tested the effects of taking Green Tea extract (GTE) on a regular basis, results showed that over a 10 week period endurance exercise performance was increased up to 24% with a 0.5% Green Tea supplementation, and an 8% increase with 0.2% GTE supplementation.
Preliminary tests on lab mice show that among mice with an obesity gene, the ones that ate food laced with Green Tea gained less fat and less overall weight, and that within those mice, “fatty liver” disease wasn’t as prevalent. Compared to the other mice with the same obesity gene, the cholesterol and triglyceride levels decreased in the mice that ate the Green Tea laced food.
Most all teas contain antioxidants, anti-viral compounds, and anti-cancer polyphenols, but only Green Tea has an abundance of fat burning catechins polyphenols. Commonly referred to as catechins, it stimulates the body to successfully burn calories and decrease body fat; it’s what gives Green Tea the ability to increase your body’s metabolism and improve fat oxidation to boost your body’s ability to burn fat.
Green Tea catechins also help prevent extra weight gain by blocking sugar (glucose) from getting into fat cells, as well as act as a glucose regulator. Green Tea helps to slow the rise in your blood sugar level after meals, in turn preventing the high insulin spikes that promote fat storage.
Of course, like with any other weight loss aid, Green Tea is not the magical answer. A healthy diet and heart pumping exercise are still the best way to lose the most weight, but Green Tea can certainly be a welcome helper.
