If you are on a budget, the Flip Mino HD is a video camera to take a close look at. It comes with an affordable price tag, is convenient to carry and use, and shoots high quality video that rivals more high class video cameras. Along with its stylish good looks, the Flip Video Mino HD is one of my favorite tech gadgets to use.
The Flip Mino’s small size makes it an attractive video camera for many. It is small and light enough to carry with you anywhere, which means you’ll always have it when you need it. It’s comparable in size to an iPhone and weighs in at only 3.3 oz. The Flip is well constructed and its smooth plastic shell is easy to hold while shooting.
The controls on the Flip Mino HD were designed so that anyone can use the camera. To start shooting video, you just point the Flip at your target, and press the red button on the back to start recording. Press the button again and the recording stops. The 1.5 inch screen is small, but it is crystal clear which makes it easy to see what you are recording.
For such a low price, the Flip Mino HD has really nice video quality. Video output is 720p (1280×720 resolution at 30 frames per second). One downside is that any shakiness while shooting is quite pronounced in the video. You do need to keep your hands quite still when recording. Battery life is about 4 hours which has not been an issue for me.
The included FlipShare program does a decent job for what it’s designed to do. I am a Mac user and I appreciate that the program works for both Macs and PCs. To transfer movies to your computer, you just use the signature Flip USB connector and plug the Mino HD directly into your usb port. Once your movies are on your computer, you can edit individual clips and then publish them directly onto sites like Myspace.
The Flip Video Mino HD is a great choice for a cheap, high quality video camera. I like taking it with me on day trips, and I’ve been able to shoot some great videos with it. You should be able to find the Flip Mino HD at any online electronics store for around $200.
